How to approach it
Treat this as a recall sprint rather than a research task, because the scoring rewards a long, varied list. Sweep the map in clusters: archipelagos and small island states first, then microstates, then the big continental countries, then the newest sovereign entrants. For each cluster, run through the flags you can picture and ask whether a dark band, a warm-toned triangle or an emblem in either shade appears anywhere in the design. Jot down every name that survives, then test the doubtful ones against the sovereignty rule. Famous flags come easily and score modestly; the marginal points sit with the smaller and less familiar states, so keep going past the first dozen names before you commit.
Get a hint
Begin with the flags you link immediately to warm colors, then broaden out to designs where the shade you are after is a small accent rather than the main field.
A little more
Small states and island nations turn up often in this kind of list, and plenty of their flags carry a central device picked out in one of the two tones.
One step further
Look closely at narrow vertical bands, diagonal crosses and the thin edging around a central shape, since that is where the qualifying color usually hides on otherwise familiar flags.

Why these answers count
Eighty-three answers were recorded and seventy-five of them cleared sixty points, so the scoring was kind to anyone with a decent memory for flags. Marshall Islands took the only hundred: its orange-topped band is easy to overlook and the name is rarely the first that comes to mind, which is precisely why few players found it. The eighty-five tier is crowded with confident but not obvious picks, Nigeria, Belize, Venezuela, Serbia and Fiji among them, names that surface after a moment's thought rather than instantly. The sixty-point group behaves differently: household names such as Austria, Mexico, Ghana and Kenya are flags almost everyone can picture, so a large share of players reach for them and the crowd flattens their value. What the scale measures is rarity rather than correctness, and that is why an overlooked island outscored a familiar name.
