How to approach it
Reconstructing a calendar beats hunting for one clever word. Walk a year at any school month by month and ask what opens it, what interrupts it, what tests it and what closes it; each of those moments carries a name, and the name is the score. Then widen the lens past your own country, since this category rewards familiarity with other systems — exchange schemes, religious calendars, inherited examining boards, regional festivals that suspend lessons. Sort candidates into families: divisions of the year, testing windows, vacations, rites of passage, fundraising and social occasions, trips. Each family should yield several entries. Novelty outranks obviousness, so once the easy ones are written down, push toward local customs and small observances that only one country bothers to name.

The frame comes first: the big divisions every institution uses to slice the year into teaching blocks, and the long pauses that separate them.
A little more
Testing comes next — the windows when a cohort sits national or school-set papers, plus the days around them when no lesson happens.
One step further
The ceremonial layer closes the sweep: welcome events for newcomers, farewells for the oldest group, charity drives, costume days and trips tied to one year group.

Why these answers count
The distribution is unusually generous at the top: 535 of the 569 recorded entries cleared sixty points, so almost any genuine fixture in the academic calendar was counted. The real information sits inside that band. Raisin weekend took the single hundred, the most local and least exportable ritual in the set, while 394 entries crowded onto eighty-five — a plateau wide enough to hold Abitur, 11-plus, Advising week, holiday blocks and one-day celebrations from dozens of countries. About a quarter of the field stopped at sixty, the usual fate of answers that were true but foreseeable: so many players named them that the rarity premium vanished. Obscurity beat elegance. Eighty-five asked only for precision and a whiff of the unfamiliar, whereas the hundred asked for something that felt almost private to one institution. Breadth across education cultures therefore paid better than depth inside a single one.
